Frequently Asked Questions
We’re a local community in the Madison area composed of adult gamers who are looking to meet, socialize and form connections with adult gamers, using video games as a shared medium to make that process easier. We host official meetups on the 1st Saturday and 3rd Sunday of each month. Members within the community also take it upon themselves to host other meetups. We’ve done Trivia Nights on Tuesdays, Movie Nights sometime during the weekend, and plenty of online game sessions, either organized ahead of time or asked on the same day within our Discord. And even beyond that we’ve had one-off meetups, like going to the Night Market together, an informal Burger Night, or even playing Tennis. 1st Saturday of the month tends to be a different location every time; we try to use Saturdays for new and fresh ideas. 3rd Sunday of the month has always been hosted at Aftershock Arcade. We rent a private room for 6 hours. We try not to place specific meetup details like time and location in our advertisements for the club because we don’t want to be flooded by a bunch of people that nobody knows. Within the Discord you can RSVP for meetups, which help us visualize how many people will be attending, and if someone new shows up, we’ve at least “met” them before because they’ve joined the Discord. We want to make sure we’re taking care of our members and are creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone! It varies every month! There’s a calendar in the Discord for future dates and their planned themes. We usually have a good variety of options for everyone to partake in, from video games, board games and card games! You can see what kind of events we’ve hosted before on our history page. Active enough! We are all adults who lead busy lives, so that will always be taken into consideration. If you’ve attended an in-person meetup at least once or are active in chatting within the Discord, you’ve nothing to worry about. Every 3 to 6 months we prune out inactive members by giving them a specific role in the Discord and messaging them all, so in the worst case scenario you will be notified if we think you’ve been inactive. We average around 20 members. Lowest we’ve ever had was 12 members, while the highest we’ve had was 28 members. Not at all! We try our best to make every meetup free to join. If a specific meetup requires a fee, it will be clearly stated in the event details. The most we’ve ever asked for anyone to pay is $10 a person, but the overwhelming majority of meetups are free. There is a suggested donation & suggestions box available during our meetups, usually asking for around $5.00, but it is always optional. Never! So long as you come with the willingness to try something new and to socialize with other people, you’ve nothing to worry about. If you identify yourself as a gamer, you are welcome to join! It’s mostly a vibe check. We take this community seriously, so we only want people that want to seriously be a part of it. We want to make genuine connections, and so that requires genuine effort. If you’re concerned about your application being denied: the more details you give us, the better your chances. Thank you for understanding! Absolutely! We’d appreciate it if you could RSVP for the meetup & leave a message saying that you’ll be bringing more people with you, so we can be better prepared! Join the Discord by clicking https://discord.gg/AFSWNJWfHt or scanning the QR code on our homepage to apply for the Discord server! We usually approve applications within the same day.
